The University of Medan Area Intellectual Property Center held an event with the theme “Socialization of Compilation of Patent Specification Documents” which was held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the Medan Area University Convention Hall.
This activity presented a speaker at the Head of Intellectual Property Center of the University of North Sumatra, Dr. Tulus Ikhsan Nasution, S.Si, M.Sc. Dr. Tulus is the 2019 SINTA Award Winner for the Most Productive Inventor Category.
Also present, Deputy Chancellor I for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ir. Hj. Siti Mardiana, M.Sc. Head of LP2M UMA, Dr. Ir. Sumihar Hutapea, MS. Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Rizkan Zulyadi, SH, M.Hum and Chair of the KI UMA Center, Dr. Muhammad Citra Ramadhan, SH, MH.
The event began with the opening by Dr. Muhammad Citra Ramadhan, SH, MH. Dr. Citra said that patent registration is not only for the exact sciences but also the humanities social sciences can also participate in the patent registration process. Dr. Citra also said that the patent registration process is very easy and there are incentives and rewards obtained in patent ownership.
The event continued with remarks from the Head of LP2M UMA, Dr. Ir. Sumihar Hutapea, MS. He said that this event was a very useful event especially for the lecturers and students. “With this socialization it is hoped that later we can obtain drafting for inclusion as actual patent rights which are very valuable indicators and documents in the clusters of universities and colleges at this time.” said Dr. Sumihar. Then followed by the opening by the Vice Chancellor I for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ir. Hj. Siti Mardiana, M.Sc, who at the same time inaugurated the “Socialization of Compilation of Patent Specification Documents”. The program began with a prayer together with an explanation of the material from Dr. Tulus Ikhsan Nasution, S.Si, M.Sc.
In his explanation, Dr. Tulus conveyed how difficult it was for the University of North Sumatra to obtain a Patent in the previous few years. He conveyed a lot of progress that was passed to be able to obtain the acquisition of a pretty much current patent at the University of North Sumatra. Dr. Tulus believes with the right and right way, UMA can obtain a large amount of KI. He said writing a patent is not difficult, it is very easy and can even be addictive.
Dr. Tulus then began the topic of the introduction of patents and invention rights, the differences, the requirements, what is permitted and not allowed in making patents, the systematic writing of draft patents and examples of patents that have been registered. He gives directions and appropriate steps for lecturers who are still unfamiliar in writing this patent.
Dr. Tulus also provides tips and tricks as well as enthusiasm for incentives obtained for lecturers from writing Patents. The event took place from 08.00 – 12.00 WIB and ended with a question and answer session along with a group photo and also lunch.
